Elitch Gardens was compelled to relocate after nearly a century at its original site. After all, it was rapidly outgrowing its origins and encountered severe space limitations. So in June 1994, the organization acquired a 67-acre plot of property near downtown Denver and invested more than $90 million in constructing the park there after only 15 years at its initial location. The construction of this memorial was aided in part by government funding, as well as loans and grants.
