The Western Colorado Botanical Gardens are the place to be if you enjoy butterflies and beautiful gardens! Located at 641 Struthers Avenue in Grand Junction, the 15-acre site sits along the Colorado River. Volunteers from around the city contributed thousands of hours to create this beauty for visitors to enjoy. The Gardens provide visitors with educational, scientific, conservation, and community programming by connecting them to the splendor of the Colorado River Basin and Plateau.
There are a couple of indoor and outdoor gardens, such as the Tropical Rainforest and Ernies Cactus and Succulent Gardens. The staff works with a range of aquatic to aerial species, too. There is even a children’s garden just for them!
The Botanical Gardens are open to the public every Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but gates will close at 3:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $5 each for admission, but seniors, students, and veterans/active military can purchase tickets for $4. Kids between the ages of 3 and 11 have a discounted ticket price of $3 while children under 3 are free for admission to the gardens.
The Tropical Greenhouse opened back in 1997 before a crowd of 2,500 people, and it’s been a big deal since! In 1998, the (Ashley Furniture) Butterfly House included native butterflies to attract more species. The Botanical Gift Shop at the Botanical Gardens has many gift options like garden and butterfly-related mementos and books, among other things.
The Cactus Garden, Antique Rose Garden, Children’s Secret Garden, Western Heritage Garden, Celebration Plaza, Japanese garden, and the surrounding gardens are just a few of the many specialized exhibits on display at the Botanical Gardens. The tropical rainforest and butterfly house exhibit has plants and orchids from the tropics, as well as koi fish, turtles, tortoises, and butterflies. Additional gardens will be constructed as the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens expand.
With so many different gardens and beautiful views, this is the perfect venue for a wedding! Celebrations can be held both indoors and outdoors depending on how many guests are invited. Spots within the Botanical Gardens that are available for weddings include the Pomrenke Library, the Castle and Secret Garden, the Tropical Rainforest, and the Shoran-Eu Gardens. The Western Colorado Botanical Gardens are wonderful for so many reasons.
The Western Colorado Botanical Gardens hosts more than just weddings, though. Each year, a schedule is posted with the events so visitors can plan their trips. During the summer, a Garden Groove Concert series will take place with one concert in July and one in August. Around Halloween, the Botanical Gardens will host a Fall at the Gardens: Harvest Illuminated special for guests to enjoy, so make sure you have your tickets ready!
